Arabic Around the World
Resource Category: Language Resource
Description: This book...is a work of modern literary Arabic containing the fundamental grammar and structure of Arabic. It is complete with exercises to provide a strong foundation for the reading and writing of the Arabic of newspapers, books, broadcasts and formal speech as well as providing the students with a course for self-study. The exercises contain modern vocabulary and expressions taken from everyday use.
Editorial Board Review: This is a grammar-translation syllabus for the beginning levels of Modern Standard Arabic. The sentences and vocabulary are based on the context and usages of modern Arabic and the contemporary Arab world.
The predominant medium for the exercise materials is reading/writing, and, while there is scope for the innovative teacher to develop oral activities, drills and exercises that will invoke those skills are not included in the syllabus itself.
The primary focus of this work is on the development of the reading and writing skills through a carefully organized and sequenced introduction of the principal grammatical features of modern standard Arabic.
